Six Pack Exercise Routines

One of the more common routines to tone the abdominal muscles is the lying down bicycle. As the name implies, the movements mimic the motions that you go through when you are riding a bicycle. Lie flat on your back. Bend both arms with both hands cupped over your head. Bend the right leg and bring it close to your chest. Lift your left shoulder so as to bring your left elbow as close to the right knee as you can. In a continuous fluid motion, repeat the motion using the left knee and the right elbow. These movements will workout the abdominal muscles, strengthening them in the process.

One other popular routine to condition the abs is the standing tower circle. Hold a small towel or a resistance band, one end on each hand, with both arms raised straight up over your head. While contracting your stomach muscles, lean forward a bit bringing both hands slightly forward and continue to do a circling motion to the right, backwards, to the left, and forward, holding the stomach taut during the entire procedure. Reverse the circling motion, this time repeating the motion towards the left. Make sure that you contract the abdominals to get the full benefit from this routine.

The seated jackknife is another movement meant to challenge the abdominal muscles. Lie flat on your back with a pad or a similar form of cushion under your lower back, Stretch your arms overhead. Stretch you legs out. While pressing your lower back towards the floor and thus contracting the abs, take on a jackknife position by bringing your head, shoulders, and arms, and legs up. Hold the contraction.
