Holy Week 2009

My Story

Holy Week (Latin: Hebdomada Sancta or Maior Hebdomada, “Greater Week”) in Christianity is the last week of Lent and the week before Easter. It includes the religious holidays of Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday (Holy Thursday) and Good Friday, and lasts from Palm Sunday (or in the Eastern, Lazarus Saturday) until but not including Easter Sunday, as Easter Sunday is the first day of the new season of The Great Fifty Days. It commemorates the last week of the earthly life of Jesus Christ culminating in his crucifixion on Good Friday and his resurrection on Easter Sunday. – Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia

For the past 2 years, I’ve been posting in my blog that the Filipino tradition of commemorating the holy week is changing. Changing in a way that it is losing it’s solemnity. But I still want to be fair and give credits to those who observe it solemnly. Anyway, it all depends to us. Some take this time as a time to bond with family and friends, and some take this time to have time for God.

Anyway, I don’t have definite plans yet what to do for this week. Even though today is a holiday, I still needed to come to work for a holiday duty. I thought of returning to the gym after a few months of stopping it. I just thought that I want some physical activities. I don’t know if this will be the last time I’ll go there because I have decided to stop going to the gym for a while.

Tuesday and Wednesday are regular working days. I know I will feel lazy for the next two days but I still need to do my responsibilities at work.

For the “very long” weekend, I got a line up of books and magazines which I want to read/scan. I also have some movies and series I want to watch. But of course, I’ll make sure to remember the true essence why we have these holy days. Actually, I am taking this opportunity to reflect and somehow renew myself. I want to feel some kind of “inspiration”.

As I mentioned earlier, it still depends on the person what he or she will do this holy week. But I hope we’ll reflect and realize the sacrifice of Jesus Christ to save us from our sins.

  1. hindi kaya dahil ang lahat ay nalilito na, o talagang naghahanap ng tunay na pananampalataya? tunay kaya ang pananampalataya kung during these times lang nagtitika at babalik uli sa dating gawi pagkatapos ng semana santa? hay, buhay talaga, punung-puno ng katanungan. for me, what is important is that we have to believe that there is a God who loves us and created us according to His likeness.

  2. Wow! I love reading your blog. I can relate to it. Paano kaya ang pagcelebrate ng Holy Week in the next decades to come? Wag naman sanang iignore ng mga tao ang true essence ng Holy Week. Jesus died to pay for our sins but people don’t seem to care.
