Before anything else, this post serves as the first post for another so-called season of Rowjielogy. Haha. This is my 201st post.
NOTE: This is already the edited version of this blog entry. I posted the songs the contestants sang for this episode. And now, I ‘ll be giving my opinions.
This week’s theme is “inspirational song”. There’s a lot of inspirational songs out there. But for these songs to really inspire people, the singer should be able to connect to the listeners. I mean, they don’t just perform these songs, but also they should really be able to inspire others with the song, so the manner they interpret the song really matters.
Brooke White sang “You’ve Got A Friend”. It is one of the songs we keep hearing all over again that’s why honestly, I do not like the song that much. I’m waiting for someone to make a good version of the song. I wasn’t amazed with Brooke’s performance tonight but it was fine and pleasant (just like what Simon said).
Carly Smithson sang “The Show Must Go On”. She sang it good, but I agree with Simon that it seemed like it was an angry performance. It didn’t sound inspirational.
David Archuleta sang “Angels”. I really love this song, especially Robbie William’s version. I think David “over-sang” it, maybe just to make an impression to make it sound original. But I can say that the performance is good.
David Cook sang “We Are All Innocent”. It was fine but forgettable. I have seen this coming for David Cook. He has been consistently giving good performances in the last few weeks. People will expect more and more from him. I think he can be a great rock star. But since he is in a contest like this, versatility also matters. Maybe he just had a wrong choice of song. I think there are inspirational songs there that might suit his style.
Jason Castro sang “Somewhere Over The Rainbow”. This is also one of the songs I really know since childhood. I am not a fan of the song. Just like with “You’ve Got A Friend”, I also want to hear a version that will get me like this song. Jason had a fine performance but still, it failed me to like the song “Somewhere Over The Rainbow”.
Kristy Lee Cook sang “Anyway”. I do not know the song, but I can say that this week is KLC’s week. She did a good job. I still want to see her next week.
Michael Johns sang “Dream On”. He sang it well. But just like what the judges said, and it’s pretty obvious in some of his previous performances, it seems like he doesn’t have is own identity. It looks like he’s trying to sound like the original versions of the song. Yah, he can sing well, but we want originality this time.
Syesha Mercado sang “I Believe”. I like this song, but I didn’t like how Syesha sang it. It’s true that she failed to have a connection with the audience.
I was right when I said before that this week will be David Archuleta’s week. But I did not expect that Kristy will impressed me this week. I am not a fan of these two contestants, but basing on their performances, I think it would be right if I place them on my top spots for today. And my rankings…
1. Kristy Lee Cook (OMG! Is this true?!? I am placing her on Top 1 for this week!?! Haha)
2. David Archuleta (OMG too!!!)
3. Brooke White
4. David Cook
5. Michael Johns
6. Carly Smithson
7. Jason Castro
8. Syesha Mercado
Eliminations is on Friday (Philippine Time). So we have more time to discuss about tonight’s performance.
